Ask the front desk anything

Questions, answered

The things every dance family asks in year one — from shoes to pointe.

Where do we buy shoes and attire?

In Greenville, visit The Sock Basket on Laurens Road (2433 Laurens Rd, Greenville, SC 29607). If you know the size, you can also order from discountdance.com. Class-specific attire is listed on each class page.

When is the front desk open?

Miss Kathy is available Monday to Thursday, 3:00–7:30pm. In summer the office is Monday–Thursday, 9:00am–1:00pm. If you miss us, email or leave a voicemail — we will happily get back to you.

What level should my dancer take?

Dance does not progress like school. Dancers often spend a couple of years in one level mastering skills before moving up. New students are often placed in an easier level first so the instructor can assess technique. It builds more confidence to be moved up than moved down. Call the office for placement help.

Can I watch class?

Televisions in the waiting area show recreational classes in studios 1, 2, and 3. Cameras turn off during company classes and rehearsal, and toward the end of the year as we prepare for Spring Performance.

Do you offer performance opportunities?

Every dancer may perform in the annual Spring Performance, typically mid-May. For more stage time we produce Nutcracker Sweets in November and the Artistic Edge Dance Company, our competitive teams.

How will I hear from the studio?

All important information is emailed to the parent address on the account. We do not send paperwork home with children. Keep your email current and read monthly newsletters.

What are the fees?

Recreational tuition is based on the number of classes per week for the full mid-August to mid-May season. Company fees are separate and do not include required technique classes, summer intensive, or Nationals. See Tuition and Company pages for the full tables.

When can my dancer go on pointe?

By invitation only. We consider strength, flexibility of feet and ankles, center of balance, posture and alignment, age, attitude, training, and a proper shoe fitting. There is no automatic age.

Why do teachers give so many corrections?

Corrections are the gold of class — limited time spent noticing one thing that can change a dancer or prevent injury. Take them as care, not criticism. Many fixes take strength, flexibility, and time.

Is there a trial class?

One complimentary trial per student during the school-year season. Register online and sign waivers first. Additional trials are $20 and credit toward tuition if you enroll. No trials in summer sessions.

What is the late pick-up policy?

Please pick up promptly. Staff cannot supervise after class. Consistent late pickups are billed $20 per 15-minute interval.

Do you follow the Greenville school calendar?

We close for major holidays and generally align with Greenville County Schools, but we do not close for most single-day holidays such as MLK Day or Presidents Day. Weather closures post by email, portal, and Facebook.
